This week's class is the Freestyle/Bead Social. It'll be a fun night out!

Following is the "class" description:

Don’t bead alone! This is a working class for beaders who may have questions or need a quick refresher in any area of beading. There will be no specific instruction but lots of one-on-one time with students. A great class to get motivated to finish your UFOs (UnFinished Objects), get back into beading, start a new project, or for social beading. Also, a chance to meet new friends and see old ones. Please bring along some of your finished projects to show the class.
(Limit 10 students)

Supplies: UFOs, beads, stringing material and findings
Cost: $15 + supplies

Hope to see you Wednesday night!

Just a reminder - classes are held Wednesday night's at AC Moore in Dover/Rockaway. The store is on the road BEHIND Rockaway Mall, not on the perimeter of the mall. They're in the old Office Max building by Home Depot.

You must sign up for classes in person at least 24 hours in advance. For more information call AC Moore at 973-442-1265.

Happy Easter!

Fireline Sale at Dick's Sporting Goods

I was just going through the ads from today's paper and saw Fireline on the cover of the Dick's Sporting Goods ad.

This is the beading material I usually recommend for bead weaving projects.

It is on sale this week for $12.98 (reg. $14.99). On top of that there is a $5 mail-in rebate. The final cost is $7.98. That's a great price. I recommend 4lb. or 6lb. test.

If you'd like me to pick some up for you and bring it class on Wednesday night just let me know.

Happy beading!

Peyote Stitch Beaded Beads - March 19

Peyote stitch is probably the most popular beading stitch - but not always the easiest to learn! Through trial and error I've come up with a method I think everyone will be able to get the hang of. This class will cover basic even count peyote stitch. We'll make several small strips that will be closed up and made into tube beads. These beaded beads will be combined with other beads to create earrings, a bracelet or necklace. Students should be able to make at least two beaded beads in class to complete a pair of earrings. THIS IS A STITCH CLASS USING NEEDLE AND THREAD.
(Limit 8 students)

Supplies: Several colors of delica or size 10 seed beads, assorted other beads, beading thread or braided fishing line, beading needles (at least 2), stringing material (ex. Beadalon), findings (ear wires, clasp, crimps)
Cost: $20 + supplies

All classes are on Wednesdays from 6:15pm - 8:45pm at AC Moore Dover/Rockaway. Make sure to sign-up at least 48 hours in advance.

If you have any questions feel free to leave a comment or email me at jewelrybyjules @ aol.com (remove spaces).

Hope to see you soon. Happy beading!

Fireline Rebate

I just found out that there's a rebate for my FAVORITE stringing material - Berkley Fireline. Yes, it IS fishing line. It's not regular fishing line though. This is braided monofilament. It works great for almost all bead weaving projects. It doesn't fray, holds knots and doesn't need thread conditioner. I usually use the smoke or crystal color in 4lb. or 6lb. test.

Check Dick's Sporting Goods ads. They have it on sale quite often. The sale price and the rebate makes it a great deal.

March is National Craft Month

Did you know that March is National Craft Month? Most craft stores are holding events throughout the month.

If you're looking for something to do tomorrow (Saturday) both AC Moore and Michaels have events going on with make and takes.

Here's the ad for AC Moore. It includes a 50% off coupon.

New Beads at Michaels

Just because I teach at AC Moore doesn't mean I don't check out the competition! LOL

When I saw the Michaels ad on Sunday the new bead section they advertised really caught my eye. I had to go check it out and I must say some of the new items are REALLY nice. My favorites are the "LINKED" bead line. I think I stood in front of that section for 20 minutes or so with a glazed look thinking up all of the great things I could make with them. A few of the employees were giving me weird looks because I was just standing there smiling. LOL

A lot of the other items are the same things they had before just in new packaging. I wish that places like AC Moore and Michaels carried more sterling and gold components. I know they don't usually carry "real" precious metals because they're more expensive. When you need something in a pinch it's easier to run to these stores.

AC Moore usually does their "jewelry reset" in April so I'm hoping that their new line has components like the ones at Michaels. I'd love to be able to incorporate these components into my classes.

OK. Enough rambling for tonight.

Happy beading!

Upcoming Bead Shows

I have to tell you. I just LOVE going to bead shows. I can still remember the first one I went to. My friend Mef and I drove to Newark, DE for an Intergalactic Bead Show. We were like kids in a candy shop. The minute I stepped into the room my heart started pounding and I almost hyperventilated! LOL

Last year we took two "beadventures" (bead + adventure) with some students from class. The first one we went to was an Innovative Bead Expo in Edison and the other one was Beadfest outside of Philly.

The reason bead shows are so great is that you see MANY more bead products than you do in places like AC Moore or Michaels. The prices are fantastic too. Everyone wears their own creations and you get lots of inspirations for your own work.

The next bead show in the area is The Whole Bead Show in NYC March 28-30. Here's the link: www.wholebead.com

The other show is an Innovative Beads Expo in Edison April 12-13. www.innovativebeadsexpo.com.

If anyone is interested in going to either of these shows let me know. I'm always up for another "beadventure"!

Happy Beading!

Julie :-)
